The OC actress will guest star as an American who is new to Erinsborough and not quite who she appears to be when the beloved Australian soap returns to television screens this year.
Barton, who shot to fame as Marissa Cooper in the teen smash drama the O.C, has been confirmed to play the role of Reece in the TV soap's revival season.
“I’m excited to be part of this iconic show’s next chapter, and I am really looking forward to being back in Australia, a place I know and love,” said Barton. “We are beyond excited to have an actor of Mischa’s calibre join us for this exciting new chapter," he said.Late last year Neighbours ended its 37-year run on Channel 10 and sister network 10 Peach after years of declining ratings.
However, Amazon Freevee picked up the production rights in November to resume airing the program in the UK, while the series will return to its old home on Channel 10 in Australia.
