Is this costume a crime?
The online costume and lingerie seller has pushed the envelope with controversial Halloween outfits before, such as last year’s provocative spin on the red cloaks and white bonnets worn by the Handmaids in Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” that sparked backlash for joking about women being forced into sexual servitude.
“Oops, you can’t always trust those motherly instincts. Turns out fame and intelligence don’t go hand in hand!” reads the $69.95 costume’s description on Yandy.com. “Bribe your way to the admissions office and score the ultimate scholarly achievement .” The controversial costumes include a riff on the Beyond Meat BYND, +1.61% and Impossible Foods plant-based burger feeding frenzy that’s rocked fast food restaurants and supermarket shelves. The “Beyond Burger” costume includes a form-fitting strapless minidress printed to look like a hamburger, topped off with a little flag that says “Plant Based” that the wearer puts on her head.
