A man is in critical condition after he was shot by an officer outside the San Diego Harbor Police Headquarters Sunday evening.
SAN DIEGO — A 29-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot by officers outside the San Diego Harbor Police Headquarters Sunday afternoon.
San Diego Police Department said it all began around 1:30 p.m. when the suspect used the call box to ask for assistance and then got back in his car. When an officer came out, the man allegedly showed a gun. SDPD said the officer fired at the suspect. Then two more responded and also fired at the suspect, according to SDPD.
"He was taken into custody [and] immediate first aid was given. He was transported to a local hospital where he is being listed in critical condition," said Capt. Freedman, San Diego Police Department homicide unit.SDPD says it is standard protocol to put the officers involved on administrative leave. The officers were wearing body cameras."I think just like anything else we're fact finders.
10News found shell casings outside the front steps of the department, alongside dozens of evidence markers. Officers are still on the scene, and the San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating.
