Microsoft has created an exclusive StrangerThings-inspired Xbox Series S designed to look like an '80s cassette player from the Upside Down.
To celebrate the release of the newest season of Stranger Things, Microsoft has unveiled an official Stranger Things Xbox. The first volume of Stranger Things' fourth season premiered this past Friday on Netflix, and now Microsoft is paying respect to the streaming giant. The Xbox is made to look just like a cassette player, tying in with the series' 1980s nostalgia.
Stranger Things is heavily inspired by and greatly relies on '80s pop culture. In season two, for instance, the Hawkins kids hang out at the local arcade playing games like Dragon's Lair and Dig Dug. It is here that they eventually meet Max - the player with the highest score in Dig Dug who eventually becomes part of their group. The science fiction-horror series constantly references the popular tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons via its otherworldly villains.
This is not the first time Microsoft has made an exclusive console that ties in with a popular franchise. Just last month, Microsoft announced furry Sonic the Hedgehog-themed Xbox controllers. While the console itself has an image of Sonic and Knuckles, its controllers are covered in blue and red hair. Fur-covered controllers seem counterintuitive as they would most certainly get coated in sweat and attract dirt.
Fans local to L.A. had a chance to win one of these custom consoles at L.A. Live's Xbox Plaza last week. Global fans who would like to get their hands on a Stranger Things-themed Xbox console will have to follow Xbox's official Twitter for a chance to win one, just like the sweepstakes to win an Xbox Series X console based on Top Gun: Maverick.
