In a tranquil corner of rural Lincolnshire, a nine-year battle against oil exploration bids and the fight to safeguard the natural environment is reaching a critical point.
Egdon Resources has repeatedly submitted variation requests to broaden the development's scope since the original application in 2014. Despite this, the site remains untouched. Amanda Suddaby, a local resident and member of SOS North Kelsey, expressed her hopes for the upcoming hearing."What we're hoping for is that the planning inspector upholds local democracy because everybody who can say no to this at every level of democratically elected organisation, has said no."
She also dismissed arguments about contributing to energy prices and energy security, stating that the expected amount of oil to be extracted was"minuscule" and that continued investment only increased dependency on fossil fuels.
