Older people could cut broadband bill to £12 before next bill due this month

A phone call to your broadband provider could bring your next bill down and beat the April price hikes.

Most households have now received an email or letter from their broadban d provider by now letting them know that their bills will be going up this month. The price hikes will see most broadband firms adding between 7.9 and 8.8 per cent on top of current bills, in line with inflation rates.

The charity said that not being able to go online could mean that older people on low incomes are unable to access information about financial entitlements or services, miss out on savings by not being able to search for the best deals and lose vital social connections. Ms Vine added: “Independent Age wants providers to proactively promote their social tariffs and target their activity at all eligible groups, including ensuring older people on a low income are not missed out.”
