Oldham has been ranked as one of the unhappiest places to live in Britain, according to Rightmove's Happy at Home index. The survey asked 26,000 residents about their feelings towards their area, with Oldham coming in at 13th place. The results showed that a feeling of pride, belonging, and community were important contributors to happiness.

Oldham came in at 13th when ranked in the the most miserable areas to live in the UK – making it the saddest borough in our county. The figures were revealed in Rightmove’s latest Happy at Home index, which asked 26,000 residents how they feel about living in their area.
Rating the happiest places nationally, Richmond upon Thames in southwest London came out on top while Hillingdon in west London was right at the other end of the cheery scale. In Greater Manchester, Altrincham topped the charts as the most joyful followed by Bury and Stockport. The results showed the most important contributors towards happiness were a feeling of pride, belonging and community. Access to green space and nature was also important to those analysed, with those living in a rural area near a national park more likely to feel happier about where they liv
