Emma McKeon has won her first individual Olympic gold medal in Tokyo after recording the second fastest time ever and out swimming fellow compatriot and friend Cate Campbell in the 100m freestyle final.

She was unstoppable from the blocks, leading from start to finish and made a statement with a new Olympic record of 51.96.

Picture: Adam Head She is the most successful swimmer at the Tokyo Games with four medals, winning gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay, bronze at the 100m buttery and bronze at the 4x200m freestyle relay and now the 100m freestyle.Only three three other Australians had won this event – Fanny Durack , Dawn Fraser and Jodie Henry .An emotional Campbell could not hold back her tears after winning only her second individual medal.
