Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has succumbed to her injuries after being doused in petrol and set on fire by a former boyfriend, a hospital spokesperson has confirmed.
Olympic long-distance runner Rebecca Cheptegei has died from her injuries days after being doused in petrol and set alight by a former partner.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom on Monday said Cheptegei’s boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema Marangach, allegedly procured petrol and poured it on her before setting her alight. Police allege Cheptegei, who competed in the women's marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was attacked by Marangach after he allegedly snuck into her house about 2pm on Sunday while she was at church with her children.“During the altercation, the boyfriend was seen pouring a liquid on the woman before burning her.
