Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said the state was seeing “a doubling in the number of cases every 48 hours roughly”.

“Omicron is clearly becoming dominant in Queensland,” he said, “we’ve had 43 confirmed Omicron cases in Queensland so far and of those tested yesterday, there were 13 Omicron cases and eight Delta cases”. There are 197 active cases in the state, with Mr Gerrard revealing just one is “moderately unwell” but improving. She is not vaccinated. On Sunday, Mr Gerrard said Omicron was emerging as the dominant strain in Queensland at a much faster rate than expected but he believed early signs indicated vaccines “appear effective” against Omicron.
