Mary Bradley came out of retirement to help women escape abusive relationships. She says most people wouldn't realise domestic violence is 'in their backyard'.
When the phone rings in Mary Bradley's office, she drops everything to focus on the woman on the line.Mary is a domestic violence case worker in the New South Wales Riverina city of Wagga, a job she's so passionate about that she came out of retirement to do it.
The centre gets busy during weekdays, which are often the only time a woman can visit or call to ask for help because it's when their abuser is not at home. Mary's days have become much busier since recent high-profile domestic violence cases and crimes targeting women. "We had family members come in and say that they're worried about this person because they don't get to see them anymore."
