The Miles government has been advised to reconsider its decision to not build a multi-billion-dollar stadium ahead of the Olympic Games in eight years' time.

Ex Brisbane mayor flags recommendations for new stadium for 2032 Brisbane Games should go ahead as it will have 'long-lasting legacy' for Queensland ers

Mr Quirk and a panel of experts recommended the government construct a $3.4 billion stadium at Victoria Park in Herston, a current green space, but it was rejected by Mr Miles who cited housing and cost of living issues affecting Queensland families. "It has to be, that’s the reality. This is a once in a century opportunity that we have," he said about the 2032 Brisbane Games on Thursday.

"So, in terms of a new stadium, a government of some sort is going to have to build a new stadium over the next decade or so.A recommendation to knock down and rebuild The Gabba was rejected by Premier Steven Miles. "So, that’s why we felt the green field site was the best way to go, to put us up there, make us competitive with the rest of Australia because we are missing events... because of the high costs of servicing The Gabba and the limitations it has.

Mr Quirk said he was left"blindsided" by the Miles government after it conducted a shadow review while the ex mayor was working on his one. Picture: NCA NewsWire/Tertius Pickard
