The Ambassador opened as the area's first luxury apartment building in 1924. In 1983, the converted hotel received the National Register of Historic Buildings designation. But by the time it was condemned and closed in 1998, it was known as a crack house,
"We have quite a few different sub-contractor crews in there doing framing, plumbing, electric and all kinds of work," Greiner said.
By the time it was condemned and closed in 1998, the Ambassador's reputation had gone from a premier downtown hotel to a crack house,AXIS Hotels LLC bought the six-story brick and limestone Ambassador building as well as the block it sat on for $5.4 million in a sale recorded on July 13, 2018, Duval County court and property records show.
Installation of roofing was authorized by a March 10, 2022, building permit estimating that cost at $135,000.
