For the the first time, large areas of regional New South Wales are in the eye of the COVID storm as the virus jumps out of the city and puts communities on alert across the state.
People have taken to social media sharing photos of vehicles snaking along roads and highways waiting to be marshalled into a testing area.
"I thought I would get a test just to make sure, to do the right thing by the community, but I didn't expect to be waiting this long," she said. One will open in West Maitland where high viral fragments of COVID-19 were discovered in wastewater last week, and the second is at Raymond Terrace Lakeside Sports Complex, able to take swabs seven days per week.Karen from Jesmond said this lockdown felt different to other stay-at-home orders.
