Despite a royal commission and millions of dollars being spent to prevent domestic violence, women and children are still being murdered at an alarming rate in Australia.

In the decade after losing her son to a horrific act of domestic violence, victim-survivor Rosie Batty has shared a powerful message to all Australians.

“One woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner. Last year, 64 women were killed in incidents of violence in Australia,” she said on Wednesday. In at least 75 per cent of the cases reported to the research group over the past 10 years, the victim knew her alleged killer. Ms Batty said there was one “hard truth” to accept when searching for answers as to why violence continued to unfold at staggering rates.
