Q. You’ve revisited the Summit Series over the years, on television and in other writing. What brings you back to the subject?
Q. In the ’72 series, did the Russians’ style of play conform to what you expected or were you astonished at what they brought to the ice? There’s a passage near the end of the book where you talk about the constructive, creative competition that occurs between rivals. “They made each other better. Everybody needs a great opponent. The series began as Us versus Them. Fifty years later, it’s Us. Allies again.”
Q. You and Vladislav Tretiak, there are some common pathways in terms of the careers you pursued after hockey. You both went into politics, with a vision of what you wanted to put forward in society, and offering service in your respective countries. Have you been in touch over the years? Could you talk about that?Article content
