Police are at the scene of a shooting in Sandy that left one person injured, according to officials.
Sandy Police said the shooting occurred around 5 p.m. in the parking lot of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse near Monroe Street and 8835 South. A neighbor called to report that they heard gunshots, and officers arrived and found a man in his 30s with at least two gunshot wounds.
He was conscious when transported to the hospital, and officials said Tuesday that he was in stable condition. Police said the suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV. They are still working to put together other details. Sgt. Greg Moffitt said it wasn't yet known if the victim and suspects had any direct connection to the church or if they were just hanging out in the parking lot area.
