One of Batman's biggest rules is to never use a gun — but it seems he can actually be convinced to use them, but only for the right villains.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Batman doesn't mind breaking a few rules to achieve justice, but the two most significant rules that he has always held himself to are "no killing" and "no guns." No matter how bad a situation gets, Batman always refuses to kill whoever he's going up against. No matter how much the Joker, Bane, or any other villain has pushed Batman, he's never resorted to lethal force.

Batman was pushed to his absolute limits in Batman: The Cult #4 by Jim Starlin, Bernie Wrightson, Bill Wray, and John Costanza, in which Batman battles Deacon Blackfire, a priest who preys on the vulnerable. He brainwashes them into becoming his willing army to take over Gotham City. This plan proves effective: not only does Deacon Blackfire manage to brainwash Batman, but, when Batman breaks free of his control, Bruce flees Gotham City.

This includes using an arsenal of firearms, which, while equipped with non-lethal tranquilizer darts, is an unusual response from the Dark Knight. Batman swore to never use guns — no matter what — but Deacon Blackfire is the one Gotham villain who manages to push Bruce past this rule.Deacon Blackfire Pushes Batman to His Limits Batman has two major rules that he lives by: no killing and no guns.

Deacon Blackfire had completely taken over Gotham City; he had soldiers on every street and even managed to repel the U.S. Military when they tried to take Gotham back. Batman knows he can't handle this situation with regular batarangs, so he equips himself with actual guns to take back his city. While the guns used by Batman and Jason only fire tranquilizer darts, this isn't true of the handgun Bruce brings with him to face Deacon Blackfire.

Batman Considers Shooting Deacon Blackfire Batman has fought some of the worst criminals that comic books have to offer, but, despite how much these villains have pushed him, he's never considered shooting any of them. He's considered killing the Joker plenty of times, but in all of those considerations and due to Bruce's deep-seated trauma, it's never been with a gun. The only Gotham City villain who managed to get Batman to break his no-guns rule was Deacon Blackfire.
