Here it comes!

Back in July 2021, The Co-operative was granted planning permission to build a new store on land off Falcon Avenue right next door to its existing supermarket on the A666. However, the new store failed to materialise and in November last year LancsLive exclusively revealed that the Co-op was set to become a Nisa.

In January of this year Tesco confirmed to LancsLive it is building a new store on the site. Work has already begun to level the land which was formerly occupied by the now demolished Hollins Grove Liberal Club.In January Tesco told LancsLive that the Express store, which will have parking space for 16 cars, would open "later this year" but with construction now well underway prospective shoppers will be looking forward to the opening.

Permission was granted back in 2021 for a retail store on the land despite six objections from neighbours on the grounds of access, traffic, parking and noise. The approval included opening hours of 7am until 10pm every day. Although that application was submitted by the Co-op the basis for the plans can pass on to another applicant.

The existing store, now a Nisa, has often been highlighted as having poor parking. This was exacerbated with the introduction of the controversial traffic lights at the bottom of Earnsdale Road with parking now even more limited.
