LCA-Vision, the leading chain of laser vision-correction procedures in the U.S., agreed to change its practices and pay $1.25 million to settle the FTC’s complaint alleging that it lured customers with bait-and-switch advertising

A LasikPlus location in Brooklyn, N.Y.The Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint against the leading chain of laser vision-correction procedures in the U.S., alleging it lured customers with bait-and-switch advertising that tricked them into believing they could pay less than $300 for LASIK surgery, while actually charging many times that amount to most patients.

The vision-correction firm, LCA-Vision Inc., agreed to modify its practices and pay $1.25 million to settle the FTC’s administrative complaint, without admitting or denying the allegations. An LCA-Vision attorney, in a statement, defended the company’s advertising practices as within normal industry standards and said consumers knew exactly how much they were going to pay for their procedure well in advance of having the procedure itself.
