Opinion: Affirmative action's end hurts students seeking to transfer. It does more harm than good. [Opinion]

We embed racial equity in teaching, transfer and workforce opportunities as well as create unique spaces honoring people who have basic needs and are undocumented, former foster youth, veterans, formerly incarcerated, student parents and LGBTQIA+. We embrace a vision of equity and excellence and see the worth, dignity, humanity and lived experiences that each of our students bring to the learning environment.

At San Diego Mesa College, equity is a student-centered approach to fostering a culture of success for historically marginalized students. In our roles as faculty members, student services practitioners, staff and administrators, we pursue equity through principles of inquiry and data-informed decision making. We will achieve equity when we see parity in outcomes across racial/ethnic groups and all disproportionately impacted groups within higher education.
