Opinion: San Diego's growth-based economy has a serious downside [Opinion]

” : Our heartless policies are also mindless and futile because homelessness is an inevitable byproduct of an economy that requires constant growth. Every city spends money and has staff engaged in organized efforts to lure more and more businesses, which bring more and more people who replace economically marginal people through gentrification and other means.

Locally and worldwide, humanity needs to reach a “dynamic steady state” of stable population and use of natural resources balanced by regeneration.

The only living systems that grow without limit are cancers and infections, killing their hosts before dying themselves. Healthy living systems are in balance with their environments and resources.
