'Ever the snazzy dresser, Peters could easily bedazzle the ankle monitor to match her jewelry,' columnist Krista L. Kafer writes.

| Columnist for The Denver PostHow can you best accessorize an ankle monitor? The question must have run through Tina Peters’ mind when County Judge Bruce Raaumand 120 hours of community service for a misdemeanor obstruction conviction.

Ever the snazzy dresser, Peters could easily bedazzle the ankle monitor to match her jewelry. Since she’ll be back in court this fall on more serious charges, Peters should consider starting her own prison chic boutique. That way Jan. 6ers and other convicts can benefit from her sense of style. Perhaps something most terrific in a man’s ankle size?

The sordid tale began in May 2021 when Peters and Deputy County Clerk Belinda Knisley conspired to bring an unauthorized individual into an election equipment system update. They shut off the room’s surveillance camera and proceeded to take video and photos of the process. The footage, which included confidential passwords, was passed along to QAnon conspiracy theorist Ron Watkins who posted it online.

During a February 2022 court proceeding involving Knisley, Peters was caught making an unauthorized recording on her iPad. Later, when investigators from the district attorney’s office attempted to retrieve the iPad from Peters at a café, she gave it to another person. Police were called. When Peters continued to obstruct authorities, she was briefly arrested. Footage of her caterwauling and trying to kick a police officer is revealing; an insanity plea may have been appropriate.
