Shadow treasurer Angus Taylor has called on the government to clarify its tax policies following speculation regarding negative gearing and capital gains tax changes.

Mr Taylor has emphasised the need for transparency ahead of the upcoming federal election after Labor In an interview with Sky News on Friday, Mr Taylor said: “We know they're working on hitting the family home with capital gains tax . We know they're working on negative gearing .”

“We've seen a 25 percent increase in personal income taxes being paid by Australians under Labor – and that's not appropriate,” Mr Taylor said. “We’ve done this while providing cost of living relief – not instead of providing cost of living relief – to people who need it because we know people are doing it tough.”

By contrast, he highlighted the Coalition’s commitment to ensuring “lower, simpler, fairer taxes” for Australians.
