NSW Opposition Leader Mark Speakman says it would be a “sleazy deal” if Nationals MP and close friend of Premier Ben Franklin is appointed President of the Legislative Council. In an interview on 2GB’s Ben Fordham program, Speakman claimed the move is driven by financial incentives and contributes to public distrust in politicians.
Amidst allegations of political inducements, the Nationals plan to refer the matter to ICAC for investigation. The Coalition expressed outrage over the potential appointment, arguing it would grant Labor effective control of the parliament.
