Days out from the Queensland government's state budget, the opposition leader has pledged to honour funding commitments if he wins office.
Opposition Leader David Crisafulli took a question from the media about whether he would review a health worker incentive scheme"I know the government's trying to run a scare campaign saying otherwise, but if things are in the budget, they've got to be honoured, for the stability of the public service and for Queensland ers to have a sense of trust."
Another political observer noted that, for someone who has been playing a small-target strategy in his bid to be Queensland's next premier, Mr Crisafulli has potentially just made himself a bigger target. Nevertheless, Tuesday's comments could put Mr Crisafulli in a dilemma on the other side of this upcoming election should the LNP win, and he becomes premier.
Indeed, in the latest opinion poll to point to strife for the third-term government – this one from RedBridge – it shows Labor trailing the LNP 28 per cent to 47 per cent on first preference, and 43 per cent to 57 per cent on two-party preferred. Arguably, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ran a small-target campaign in his bid for the Lodge in 2022 when he defeated Scott Morrison.
