Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has implied only the Australian flag should be flown from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, days after declaring he would not stand in front of the Aboriginal flag during press conferences if elected prime minister next year. The Aboriginal flag permanently replaced the NSW flag on the bridge in June 2022 under then Liberal premier Dominic Perrottet and the Coalition state government.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton on Sunrise. Earlier this week, Dutton ignited a media firestorm when he told Sky News he would not stand next to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at press conferences if he becomes prime minister. Dutton has instead insisted that Australians should be unified behind one national flag. On Thursday Dutton appeared to suggest the Aboriginal flag should be taken off the bridge while speaking to Nat Barr on Sunrise on Thursday.
