Anger is mounting at the telco's response to the breach, which has compromised the personal data of up to 9.8 million customers. 9News

was first made aware of a cyber attack on its systems up to 24 hours before it alerted the public, which it chose to do so by issuing a press release rather than contacting customers.

The following day, at 2pm AEST on Thursday, Optus issued a media release to the press informing them of the attack. "We used those 24 hours to shut down unauthorised access and to check there weren't additional vulnerabilities."The attack - which under a "worst case scenario" has compromised the personal data of 9.8 million customers - became known to Optus on Wednesday afternoon.

In response Rosmarin said that all Optus customers will be contacted in due course, and will be informed how much of their personal data has been compromised.Personal data of Optus customers dating back to 2017 has been compromised."I'm disappointed it undermines all the work we've done," she said.Optus has stressed that no bank details and no passwords were taken, and it is unclear if any customer has suffered harm as a result of the cyber attack.
