Naomi Osaka could be thrown out of the French Open if she continues to boycott news conferences, the board of grand slam tennis tournaments said on Sunday after the Japanese star let her tennis do the talking in Paris
Citing the rule book, the statement noted that tougher sanctions from repeat violations could include default from the tournament and more substantial fines and future grand slam suspensions.
Former world No.1 Angelique Kerber became the first of two major major casualties at Roland Garros, her poor record at the French continuing when she was knocked out by Ukrainian qualifier Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 6-4. Gauff, 17, has beaten Williams, 40, twice in grand slam singles action – at Wimbledon in 2019 and at the Australian Open last year.
