Oscars slammed for holding a 'moment of silence' for Ukraine but barely mentioning the invasion oscars
The 94th Academy Awards are being held on Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Organizers are under fire for paying 'tribute' to the people of Ukraine without mentioning the country until near to the end of the three hour show. . Schumer eventually said there was a 'genocide in Ukraine' as part of a list of world issues in a throwaway line at the end of the show. Earlier in the night, the hosts had gone after domestic political issues.
'We're going to have a great night, and for you folks in Florida, we're going to have a gay night!' said Sykes. In another joke, Sykes took aim at Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, accusing him of 'toxic masculinity'. Other jokes centered on diversity at the Golden Globes and gender pay issues in Hollywood. Troy Kotsur became the first deaf man to win an Oscar, winning best supporting actor for CODA.
