BREAKING: Australian television personality Ernie Carroll, best known for his character Ossie Ostrich on Hey Hey It's Saturday, has died at the age of 92. 9News
Hey Hey It's Saturday,host Daryl Somers, who said Carroll died peacefully and of natural causes inside his unit at a Mornington retirement village in"It is with overwhelming sadness I announce the passing of my beloved friend and mentor Ernie Carroll," Somers wrote on Facebook.
Carroll created and performed the famous puppet character Ossie Ostrich for 25 out of the 30 years that the program ran.Somers led tributes for a friend he said would be "forever in my heart".Cartoon Corner"He was a man of few words with a quiet countenance but when he did speak he imparted great wisdom.Somers described Carroll as "a pioneer of television", transitioning from radio in the 1950s "when television was in its infancy".
He is survived by his daughter Lynne, son Bruce, his grandchildren and his partner of almost 50 years, Miffy Marsh.
