BREAKING: Scott Morrison says current coronavirus restrictions will remain in place for at least another FOUR weeks, and has outlined three measures that must be in place before restrictions may be lifted. 9News Details here:

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said that state schools would remain open, given they apply a list of seven principles given to them by the National Cabinet.

Mr Morrison stressed that state schools are governed by the nation's states and territories, but the over-arching medical advice is that schools remain safe for children. "The health advice has been consistent that for children schools are a safe space for children," Mr Morrison said. "Where the confusion arises is that for teachers they are more likely - teachers are more at risk in the staff-room than they are in the classroom when it comes to how the health advice plays out and the impact of this virus on children as opposed to teachers.

"That means we need to have proper arrangements in place for teachers and other staff in schools obviously to protect their work environment, but at the same time that doesn't lead to the same rules applying for students because they have a different level of risk."
