Our recommendation for Texas’ 33rd Congressional District | Opinion
Marc Veasey of Fort Worth, with wife Tonya.Democratic U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey was first elected to Congress in 2012. As he closes out a decade of service in Washington, D.C., we think voters in the 33rd District should allow him to continue on the job.
Veasey faces Republican challenger Patrick David Gillespie, a UPS entry writer from Fort Worth who is running for office for the first time because he is “sick and tired of all the lies and backstabbing the current and past politicians have displayed.” But Gillespie, 65, lacks the experience or well-developed policies to seriously challenge a seasoned legislator.
We like that in these highly divisive political times, Veasey continues to look for ways to work with his Republican colleagues to develop bipartisan programs to help his district. In our conversation with him, for example, he touted his involvement in the Small Business Payment for Performance Act. Veasey in July introduced that bill, which would help small businesses compete for federal dollars, with two Republican representatives.
