The Victorian MP at the centre of an assault allegation has broken his silence, strenuously denying the claims made against him.
The 45-year-old resigned from the parliamentary Labor Party on Saturday after Premier Daniel Andrews’ office referred the matter to Victoria Police.
Mr Fowles also said he will “fully cooperate with any process or enquiries”, and that he will remain a member of the Labor Party.“My focus remains on representing my local community to the best of my abilities. I will not be making further comment until such time as I am cleared.” “If there had been other complaints, they would have been dealt with identically to the way we have dealt with this one.The Premier did not comment on where the alleged incident happened, or whether the person involved was a staffer or a member of parliament.In a statement released on Saturday, the Premier said his office had receive information about the “alleged serious assault” just a few days prior.
