The Houston Humane Society rescued 138 frozen bats living on Waugh Drive Bridge, which is a popular area for bat watching.
The nonprofit is rehabilitating the creatures after temperatures plunged on Thursday. The organization is also working to bat-proof the area by adding rubber padding to cushion the animals’ falls and bringing in warming bins for those rescued.Lucky for the winged mammals, the organization’s director, Mary Warwick, is an expert on bats.
