Twelve Australians will make their Commonwealth Games debut, while just two — Jane Claxton and Brooke Peris — have 100 caps or more.

The world number three Hockeyroos have named an inexperienced squad featuring 12 Commonwealth Games debutants as they attempt to return to their golden ways at Birmingham 2022.The Hockeyroos have claimed gold in four of the six Commonwealth Games where hockey has been played

Jane Claxton and Brooke Peris are the only members of the 18-player squad to have notched up 100 games or more for Australia. Peris, who was the Northern Territory's Sportsperson of the Year in 2014, is the cousin of dual Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nova Peris, who was a sprint and hockey star. However, they were denied a hat-trick of gold medals in the final on the Gold Coast four years ago and are desperate to get back to their golden ways.Madison Fitzpatrick, who has been a member of the Australian team since 2015, is confident the Hockeyroos will shine in Birmingham.

"Our new players are slotting in very well. The Commonwealth Games will be a big test for them but they have the full support of the team and the coaches, so I know they will shine.""I am thrilled to be selected for the Commonwealth Games and feel excited, albeit slightly daunted, to play with and against some of the greatest hockey players in the world," Colwill said.
