As the House returns from August recess with Republicans expected to vote on opening an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden this month, House Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin is going on the offensive and circulating a memo to House Democrats combatting the investigations and possible impeachment inquiry.
In his memo, Raskin claims that Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer “has resorted to misrepresenting and distorting this huge body of evidence to make baseless and sensationalistic claims,” including that Biden himself has received money from foreign entities. Through testimony from Hunter Biden’s former business associate Devon Archer, it was revealed that then-Vice President Joe Biden was on speakerphone with his son and business associates at least 20 times over the course of a decade.
Raskin does not dispute the information the committee has uncovered about Hunter Biden or his business associates but pushes back against the notion that it ties back to Joe Biden. Another judgment Raskin raises in the memo is that House Republicans are only investigating the Biden family and contemplating an impeachment inquiry into the president as an attempt to distract people from Trump’s own legal woes.
