Queensland premier Steven Miles has backed the proposal after more than 80 per cent of surveyed residents voted in favour.
A proposal to permanently increase the number of annual entertainment events to 12 gained “overwhelming public support” in a recent government survey.Concerts at Suncorp Stadium could become more frequent.“I certainly want to see it stay,” he said.“When we built the stadium there was significant concern from the neighbourhood, but what we’ve seen since then is the people of Paddington and Milton have really embraced Suncorp Stadium.
“They love it now, I know people who live near there love the concerts, love the games, love the shows and want to see more of them.The Department of Tourism and Sport told“ will now consider feedback from the public consultation before any decisions are made,” a spokesperson said.
“The detail of the scope and timing of the works is being developed by the Games Venues and Legacy Delivery Authority and will be ready for government consideration in the first half of 2025. “GVLDA will work closely with Stadiums Queensland to ensure key stakeholders, tenant clubs and user groups are consulted throughout the process.”“There’s definitely demand,” he told“We know that there was a great disappointment when we couldn’t get Taylor Swift to come to Brisbane.
“It’s great to see the state government now considering a permanent increase in the number of events … because ultimately this is something that the community is wanting, this is something that’s in demand and it also brings a major economic boost to the city.”
