Sacked P&O Ferries staff confront MP as angry protests break out at ports across UK
MPs and union leaders have called for P&O Ferries to return any Government cash they received during Covid. Company received millions for furloughed staff during pandemic but have now sacked 800 crew members. The company said it had lost £200million in two years and had to resort to using cheaper agency crews.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said his officials were in urgent talks with P&0 Ferries over the situation. Firm operates four routes: Dover to Calais; Hull to Rotterdam; Liverpool to Dublin; and Cairnryan to Larne.
