The Pa. State Capitol Complex will be closed on Tuesday to reduce logical difficulties arising from the inauguration of Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro. File/Matthew Dressler | Special to PennLiveIf you are planning a trip to the Pennsylvania Capitol Complex in downtown Harrisburg to do business at a state agency on Tuesday, you’ll have to change your plans.
The Capitol Complex will be closed that day as part of efforts to reduce traffic, parking and other logistical issues due to the Shapiro will be sworn in at a noontime outdoor ceremony behind the Capitol East Wing along Commonwealth Avenue.Commonwealth Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Walnut to North streets beginning on Wednesday through Jan. 18.
Free parking will be available at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex for those registered attendees to the governor’s and lieutenant governor’s swearing-in ceremonies. That lot is accessible off I-81 and Cameron Street. Shuttle buses will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. and run continuously from the Farm Show lot to the Capitol Complex prior to the ceremonies.
Starting at 1:15 p.m., shuttles will depart the Capitol and return attendees to the Farm Show lot with the last shuttle leaving the Capitol at 3 p.m.to find locations of metered and garage parking.If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
