Robert Stahl, 73, of Selinsgrove, told state police he had been contacted in March via Facebook messenger by someone who identified themselves as Watson, telling him he would receive the money for being such a loyal fan. To receive the $250,000, Stahl said he was told to send large sums of cash to multiple locations, which he did four times until last Saturday.
That is when he became suspicious it might be a scam because he had not received any money and reported the fraud, police said. The public should be aware of these types of deceptive schemes, police said. Attempts to reach a spokesperson for Watson were unsuccessful. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
