US Vice President Kamala Harris has admitted America had neglected the Pacific, as she outlined how the Biden administration would correct that with its own version of a Pacific step up to counter Chinese influence.
“We recognise that in recent years Pacific Islands may not have received the diplomatic attention and support that you deserve So today I am here to tell you directly we are going to change that,” Harris tells the forum.opening US embassies in Kiribati and Tonga, and creating the position of envoy to the Pacific;
Without naming China, Harris says the US was committed to the defence and promotion of the international-rules based order, saying they had bought peace and prosperity to the Pacific.
