Optioned to Triple-A El Paso, oft-used reliever Nabil Crismatt returns to San Diego in time for clincher
A little more than a week ago, Nabil Crismatt struck out two in a scoreless inning in El Paso, joined in on a raucous celebration at Southwest University Park and forwarded video of the occasion to his friends in San Diego.
To be clear, the 27-year-old Crismatt is not officially on the roster. He was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sept. 11 amid a late-season hiccup and finished the minor league season with five strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings of one-run ball as the Chihuahuas wrapped up a Pacific Coast League division title.Crismatt, though, has quite a bit to do with the Padres punching their ticket to the postseason, posting a 2.
“This is awesome,” Crismatt said. “It’s been an awesome year with these guys. It’s not the way I wanted to finish , but I’m ready whenever they need me. That’s the only thing I can control. Whenever they need me, I’m here for them.”A big-league catcher who caught 627 games over a 10-year career, Bob Melvin can certainly take a hit.
He knew it had nothing to do with him. But definitely pumped for this team, for this squad. I know the first meeting we had with B-Mel , he said this one is going to take us to the championship. We’re going to bring it home to San Diego.
