Manny Machado hits on field, but playing against Yankees probably not going to happen; Ha-Seong Kim bounces back quickly from knee injury
Juan Soto is the only Padres player and one of eight players in the major leagues to have started every game this season, and he sees no reason he can’t continue doing so.
“By the time he was wanting me to take a day off, I was getting a little hot and my swing was feeling better,” Soto said. “And I’m like, ‘Trust me, I feel great. Just let me keep playing.’ And he let me play, and now I feel great at the plate.”There is certainly no shame in taking off a game when they come so relentlessly over the course of six months. In fact, everyone does. Everyone. The last player to start 162 games in the outfield was the Giants’ Hunter Pence in 2013.
Melvin has seen what is possible. He played three seasons in Baltimore with Cal Ripken Jr., the holder of the consecutive games streak of 2,632 games that will never be broken.
