Jake Cronenworth is carrying a 10-game hitting streak into the Padres' two-game series at the Seattle Mariners. Despite hitting only one home run during the streak, Cronenworth has been consistently getting hits and maintaining a batting average of .415/.442/.
10-game hitting streak is a 104 mph blast that he yanked over the wall in right field on Sunday. He also pulled a single to right that day after singling twice to left the previous day.
During a streak in which he’s hitting .415/.442/.634 with six extra-base hits, 13 of Cronenworth’s 17 hits have been straightaway or opposite-field hits and six of his last 10 hits have topped 100 mph. As much as it appears as if Cronenworth’s uptick is the result of a change in approach, he said over the weekend that it comes down to feeling good at the plate.“I don’t want to say I’m hitting the ball where it’s pitched,” Cronenworth said, “but just when I do get a pitch I know I can handle, I’m putting the barrel on it.”
He added: “Rhythm and time is the biggest thing. It’s hard to find because obviously it’s such a finite game and you have to be almost perfect to hit some of those pitches. But when you do find it, you just feel like you’re in rhythm with the pitcher.”
