Seventeen additional draft picks and eight undrafted free agents have signed on with the club, the Padres announced Thursday afternoon. The signings came five days before Tuesday’s deadline to come to terms.The club inked first-round pick Dillon Head earlier this week, awarding him a signing bonus of $2.8 million.Right-handed pitcher Kannon Kemp, an eighth-round pick out of Weatherford High School in Texas, signed for $625,000, according to MLB.
The Padres gave left-handed pitcher Blake Dickerson a $500,000 bonus, per MLB.com, well above the recommended slot for a 12th-round selection. The 6-6, 210-pounder had been committed to Virginia Tech. The Padres’ draft class includes Grand Canyon outfielder Homer Bush Jr., the son of former Padre Homer Bush. The fourth-round pick signed for a $511,600 bonus, exactly the slot value, according to MLB.com. Arizona shortstop Nik McClaughry, the Pac-12’s Defensive Player of the Year, signed for $25,000, according to MLB.com — far less than a 10th-round valuation.
Listed among the club’s undrafted free agent signees is Arizona State outfielder Ethan Long. The Giants selected Long in the 20th round of the 2020 draft, but he did not sign.1.
