Padres raising season ticket prices a third straight year in 2024
Sporting the third-highest payroll in baseball, the Padres will raise all season ticket prices a third straight year, a weighted average increase of 9 percent for the 2024 season, according to a team spokesperson.
The team has since poured an unprecedented amount of money onto the on-field product — Fernando Tatis’ $341 million deal, Xander Bogaerts’ $280 million deal this offseason and Manny Machado’s $350 million extension this spring, to name a few — pushing payroll to a franchise-record $253 million and counting.
The Padres, on the other hand, kept pending free agents Blake Snell and Josh Hader for a shot at a postseason push and added around the edges of a star-studded but underachieving roster, all but ensuring they will finish above both the $233 million luxury tax threshold and the first penalty threshold .
Their plus-69 run differential, after all, was better than six teams beginning the week in postseason position.The team capped season ticket sales before the season for the first time ever, broke Petco Park’s sellout record of 26 in mid-June and on Monday were expecting their 49A wait list is already in place for the 2024 season.
