Senior Arab officials have claimed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has cancelled his planned meeting with United States President Joe Biden after a strike on a Gazan hospital.
explosion at al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, which may have been the result of an Israeli airstrikePresident Abbas declared three days of mourning following the bombing, while the secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organisation Hussein al-Sheikh said the Palestinian leader had returned to the West Bank ahead of an"emergency leadership meeting".
Reuters also reported"two senior Palestinian officials" said the meeting had now been cancelled, although no formal communication has been made confirming their account. American officials are yet to confirm the cancellation as of Wednesday, while President Biden has shown no signs of postponing his trip to the region, boarding Air Force One just before 6pm on Tuesday in the US state of Maryland.
In the aftermath of the strike on al-Ahli Hospital, Jodran's King described the attack as a"massacre" and a"war crime," as he called upon Israel to immediately cease military action against Gaza. Israel's Defence Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said a militant group which is thought to have aided Hamas in its attack on Israel was responsible for the bombing.
