The Federal Court has awarded billionaire mining magnate Clive Palmer and Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan damages following the conclusion of their defamation case.
The legal action was initially brought against the Premier by Palmer in 2020 in the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
Palmer launched the legal action after the Premier labelled him a “enemy of the state” and told the court the statement brought him into “hatred, ridicule and contempt”. Mr McGowan defended his decision to close the border and to introduce the legislation arguing he “did what was needed to be done”.
