It wasn't the scoreline most had predicted but the Panthers marched onwards behind a sublime Nathan Cleary to beat Brisbane and extend their winning streak. NRL2020
Victory to the Panthers mean they are now five points ahead of the Storm, who face the Rabbitohs on Friday night, with three rounds left to play. It would be a fitting reward for a side that has only one loss and a draw on their record since the season resumed after two rounds.
Nathan Cleary's short kicking game was superb, as was his all-around performance. His poise kept Penrith on the straight and narrow even when the Broncos were showing signs of resistance. Payne Haas was again superb for the Broncos, finishing with 60 tackles to go with 150-plus run metres. Penrith hadn't seen much of the ball but were slowly realising they needed to get themselves into the contest. Their opener came out of nothing; Brisbane had them covered for numbers before Dearden fell off a tackle and Staggs went inland when he should have gone out to allow Josh Mansour to cross in the corner.
